为什么做展览?

作为一个一直寻求旁门左道的人,我深知自己拥有一项独特的能力,就是突破内卷,不论是我从工业设计转到计算机设计,再从创意编程转到生物设计,还是参与各种建筑项目,每一个稳定时期我都是在寻找一个新方向,没有方向我就会很迷惑和焦虑。展览大概就是2021年上半年一直思考转型的一个机遇。

2021年三月多,吴昕华说:“感觉你特别适合做策展,认识很多人,有自己的设计品味和偏好以及理解,管理能力也还不错,而且策展的专业知识都可以之后来补。“说者无心(吴昕(华)),听者有意。这大概是一切的起点。从这个时刻之后,我在伦敦看展览的关注点从作品转移到了展览的策展。

2021年9月,yifei跟我说,她有一个场地可以让我做展览,10月summer Liu 联系到我,说一起做这个展览,一切就行安排好的一样,所有东西顺理成章的走到了这里。

我不是一个迷信的人,但是如果一件事的过程非常顺利,那我很相信我在做对的事情,还好生活不一定要像电影一样需要转折。当然,如果一件事情不顺,那我就会用另一个方式来理解,“这是我需要学习和攻克的内容“。

有了想法和人,需要的就是真实可以实施的能力和条件。
Why did I want to curate an exhibition?

As someone who has always explored the unknown, I know that I have a unique ability to break through the involution, whether I go from industrial design to computational design, from creative programming to biodesign, or participate in various architectural projects. In every period of stability, I will look for a new direction. Not having a new direction makes me very confused and anxious.

Curating an exhibition is probably a breakthrough point in the first half of 2021. In March 2021, my friend said "I feel that you are very suitable for curating, you know a lot of people, you have your own design taste, especially your management skills are not bad. As for the professional knowledge of curation, these can be learned by doing.” This is probably where it all starts.

From this moment onwards, my focus on the exhibition in London shifted from the work to the curation of the exhibition. In September 2021, Yifei told me that she had a venue for me to do an exhibition. In October, Summer Liu contacted me and said that we would do this exhibition together. Everything was just as arranged, and everything came here logically. I'm not one to believe in miracles, but if something goes well, then I'm pretty sure I'm doing the right thing.

Fortunately, life doesn't have to be a movie-like twist. Of course, if one thing doesn't go well, then I understand it in another way, "this is what I need to learn and overcome".

如何组织一个展览?

买房子的人会说,房子最重要的是三件事- location location location

真实的展览最需要解决的也是- location 的问题

场地问题是一切的问题,这此活动也深刻的让我感觉到只是自己对场地拥有足够的话语权,展览才能办好。

说回来,非常感谢 Yifei 帮我链接到了富力地产(英国分公司),利用原有的样板房做展览。这里解决了场地问题。

很多参观的人会问我们,你们如何找来的作品?怎么联系的艺术家?这其实是最容易的问题。almost 所有的艺术家都希望自己有机会展览自己的作品。一个直接免费提供的展览机会,很难被拒绝。我们三位策展人都是在艺术和设计领域,身边不乏优秀的作品,所以当展览基调确定,一切都变得非常简单。
How did I organize an exhibition?

the most important thing about a house is three things - location location location.

The most important thing about an exhibition is  location as well. This event also deeply made me understand  the importance of the decision-making power over the venue.

I am very grateful to Yifei for helping me link to R&F Properties (UK branch) and use the original model house for exhibitions. The venue problem, solved. Many visitors will ask us, how did we find the art works, how to contact the artist? This is actually the easiest part. Almost all artists would like to have the opportunity to show their work. An exhibition opportunity offered directly free is hard to turn down. Our three curators are all in the field of art and design, so when the tone of the exhibition is determined, everything becomes very simple.

这次展览的主题是:自然而然,我起的名字,很直白两个意思,“就那样,就那样“ 和 “道法自然“。英文名字有点草率 “Beyond Nature“,说实在的,我如果重新起,应该是:

What kind of exhibition did it end up showing?

The theme of this exhibition is: Naturally, my name has two very straightforward meanings, "just like that" and "the way is natural". The English name is a bit sloppy "Beyond Nature", to be honest, if I start over, it should be:
Nature, Naturally






自然,三千世界朝夕循环。
而然,芸芸众生复归其根。
自然而然
阴阳消长,万物生


天人合一,道法自然。
可持续发展,
这个现代的概念其实一直蕴含在中国古老的哲学思想中
后疫情时代
内观自我外观世界
如何与自然协调发展为今时今日的我们提出了无限挑战


周遭是美丽却不可透视的迷雾
我们被花丛般的巨大包裹其中


佛法有云,三千世界皆有生命循环往复,文明作为从无到有的变数亦是一隅微弱的光芒。当下,在这个被地质学家称为人类世—人类活动已然对气候及生态系统造成全球性影响的节点,也许回归我们早已陌生的源头,才能复苏新的火种。


本次展览将通过多种媒介艺术创作的新实践
试图探寻可持续发展文明何以为续的路径。


从自然中来,与自然同行,超越自然。


Nature, a circle of the universes,
In nature, all creatures return to their premises.
Oh, Nature, all too nature,
To the dance of Yin and Yang, all beings exuberate.

‘The man strives to unite with heaven, in nature the method of Dao follows.’(Laozi, 571– 471 BC)

The concept of sustainable development has long been rooted in ancient Chinese Philosophy.

In the post-pandemic, when reflecting inner and observing the outside world, we find that the changes of nature have lifted formidable challenges for us.

Surrounded by beautiful yet impenetrable mist, we are wrapped in blooming unknowns.

In Buddhism, the universe witnesses cyclic repetition of life. Human civilization raises a kindling in this process.

As we are ushering in the current geological age of the Anthropocene, human activities have a dramatic impact on global climate and ecology. Under this situation, perhaps only returning to an estranged origin can kindle hope.

This exhibition will introduce new art practices via various forms and vehicles in an attempt to seek more sustainable methods of civilization development.

From nature, with nature, beyond nature.




︎展厅环境 SPACE

此次展览非常与众不同的地方在于,我们并没有采用传统空旷展厅的方案,而是利用现有的样板间,将展览放置在类似家庭的场景里。在最初我会认为没有大的空旷展厅会限制布展,但现实情况完全相反。大量的参观者对于这样的环境表达出惊喜。在每个周末的活动现场,舒适的环境还帮助艺术家和参观者构建了非常好的沟通环境。

What makes this exhibition very different is that we did not use the traditional empty exhibition hall, but used the existing model room to place the works in a home-like scene. A large number of visitors were pleasantly surprised by such a space. At the event every weekend, the comfortable environment also helps to build a very good communication environment for artists and visitors.

展览最初的计划是分为三个部分
The exhibition was originally planned to be divided into three parts

1. 危机感(为什么需要可持续?)
2.可持续的实践(如何可持续?)
3.可持续的生活(什么是可持续生活?)

1. A sense of crisis (why need to be sustainable?)
2. Sustainable practices (how to achieve sustainability?)
3. Sustainable living (What is a sustainable lifestyle?)

因为场地方的限制,我们通过为每个周末的活动来绕复杂审核,放置短期作品和活动的方式让展厅体验丰富。

Due to the limitation of the venue, we enrich the experience of the exhibition hall by bypassing complex audits for each weekend's activities and placing short-term works and activities.
